Financial Information 2010

The cost of studying at Pacific Adventist University is only a fraction of what is charged by many overseas universities. At Pacific Adventist University, tuition fees and other related costs are made up of:

Some discounts are provided to students for early payment.  Details of these discounts are shown on the payment details page.

Application and Registration Fees

To apply to study at PAU, all prospective students must complete and submit an application form (available here) to the academic office prior to the closing date listed on the form.  Each new application to study at PAU must be accompanied with non-refundable a K30 processing and administration fee.

For applications submitted after the closing date - the application will only be considered if accompanied with the regular K30 processing fee and an additional K100 late application fee. (a sum of K130).

For students who are accepted to enrol and study at PAU, when advised, a confirmation deposit of K500 is required to hold your place at the University for the year (K300 is non-refundable).  This deposit is credited towards your 2010 course tuition costs.

 


Course Tuition

Typical students at PAU study 5 subjects (4 majors and 1 minor) per semester.  Specific costs may vary based on the number of subjects taken within that semester and depending on which school/s the subjects are taken from.  Students typically study a minimum of 3 subjects per semester.

The course tuition fees fall into three different price categories dependant on the types of subjects:

  • Arts, Education, Nursing and Theology Subjects: K592.00 per subject taken
  • Business and Science Subjects: K683.00 per subject taken
  • Post Graduate Courses: K1,126 per subject taken

 

All courses except for post graduate courses also include a practicum component once per year to provide students with real world on the job experience.  The costs for practicum's are as follows:

  • Arts, Education, Nursing and Theology Practicum: K637 per practicum
  • Business and Science Practicum: K683 per practicum

Note: First and second year Business students are not required to do practicum, therefore the practicum fees do not apply for business students in first and second year.

Service and Facility Fees

Pacific Adventist University have available to students some of the best facilities and services of any institution in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific. 
To provide these services at the levels available the following fees are charged to all enrolled students.

  • General Administration Fee: K185 per year (Student ID, 2010 Yearbook, student association, medical fees)
  • Library Facilities Fee: K64 per year
  • Computer and Internet Access Fee: K264 per year

 


Residential and Boarding Fees

Pacific Adventist University provides accommodation for both single and married students who wish to reside on campus during the course of their study.
 

Single Indoor Dorm Students
PAU has residential dorm spaces available to students taking a minimum of 3 subjects per semester subject to rooms being available. These rooms will typically be shared with 1 or 2 other students.  All indoor boarding fees include 3 meals per day provided by the University in the Dining hall.
Single indoor dormitory boarding fees for 2010 are:

  • Dorm Room: K111 per week (approx K1776 per semester)
  • Key Deposit: K150

Note: Students choosing to remain on campus during the vacation periods will be charged the same rates for accommodation and meals as the academic periods. Payments can be in cash or by working for the University. Work hours will be valued at K3.00 per hour for accommodation and meal purposes only.
Note: Students who continue to hold keys for a dormitory room at the University outside the academic semesters are charged rent or board whether they are on campus or not.

Note: Single Indoor students are required to provide a K150 key and room deposit that is reimbursed when key is returned to respective Deans at the end of study or when withdrawing from study at PAU - provided the room is still in good condition.

Married Students' Accommodation
PAU has a limited availability of self contained; self catering accommodation for married students.  The costs per house/unit for 2010 are:

  • 1 Bedroom: K109 per week (approx K2, 180 per semester)
  • 2 Bedroom: K118 per week (approx K2, 360 per semester)
  • 3 Bedroom : K124 per week (approx K2, 480 per semester)
  • Housing/Key Bond: K400
  • Live-in baby sitter charge: K500

Note: Students choosing to remain on campus during the vacation periods will be charged the same rates for accommodation as the academic periods. Payments can be in cash or by working for the University. Work hours will be valued at K3.00 per hour for accommodation purposes only.
Note: Students who continue to hold keys for a house at the University outside the academic semesters are charged rent or board whether they are on campus or not.
Note: A K400 bond payment in cash is required by all new students who rent married students accommodation. A house inspection is required at the commencement and conclusion of the tenancy, as well as twice per year, and the bond may be used to cover full or part of the costs of damage incurred during the tenancy. The bond less cost of any repairs will be reimbursed only after the house is inspected and keys returned to DOSS.
Note: Some students choose to employ (at their own cost) a live in babysitter. Married students who obtain University permission for live-in baby-sitter must pay an additional K500 per year, payable in advance before access is given to an assigned house. This fee must also be paid before registration by approved students already enrolled in the University.  This fee is to cover the cost of additional water usage, rubbish removal and other related services and property maintenance.

 


Other Costs

 Students studying at PAU need to be aware of the following additional costs that may be necessary depending on their course of study:

  • Orientation Week: PAU run's a comprehensive orientation week for all new students or first year students. All new students and first year students are required to attend orientation. There is a K100 tuition fee for all day and boarding students. Boarding students will also need to pay for an additional weeks accommodation (as per boarding rates)
  • Graduation Fee: Final year students are charged a graduation fee of K158 for the hire of a gown and cap for graduation.
  • Textbooks & Stationery: A student is required to purchase their own Textbook and stationery during the course of their study. It would cost approximately K1000 per year for Textbooks and stationery.
  • Day Student Transport: PAU has available bus transport for day students to and from the Koiari Park campus daily for students who choose to use it. A student who wishes to travel on the PAU buses are charged a transport fee of K460 per semester.
  • Shopping Bus Transport: PAU runs weekly busses to town for shopping and other general purposes. The current cost is K4 per return trip.
  • Locker: PAU has available a limited supply of lockers available for day student use at an annual charge of K32 for students who would like to keep their books and other belongings on campus.
  • Late Registration: Students who arrive late or do not register within the prescribed registration period advertised by the University must pay a K100 late registration fee. Students who do not register within two weeks must leave the campus.
