Master in Leadership and Development (MLD) and Postgraduate Diploma in Leadership and Development (PGDip LD)

Course Overview

The MLD and PGDip LD provides the opportunity for graduates to gain the leadership and management skills needed for work in development. Students will develop their knowledge and skills in leadership and will study in the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development programmes. The PGDip LD is nested within, and is half of, the MLD.

Who should do this course?

This course will allow the student to develop their knowledge and skills in leadership.

The MLD and PGDip have a strong practical focus with taught subjects, while the MLD also requires students to undertake an applied research project.

Course Length

The MLD is a two to three year program.  The PGDip LD is a one year program. The first part of the MLD (which is also the complete PGDip LD) is taught in intensive mode (four intensives, of three weeks duration each, in January, June, July and December) in the first year. MLD students then continue to undertake a research project which can be completed full time in one year or part time in two years.

Career opportunities

MLD graduates will have a range of transferrable skills to fulfil leadership and management positions in the development sector, public service, NGO or business sectors.

Entry Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.7 (2.2 for postgraduate diploma) [OR]
  • Two postgraduate level subjects with a minimum GPA OF 2.7 plus 2 years work experience [AND]
  • Be currently employed in the development industry.
