Master of Philosophy

Course Overview

The Master of Philosophy course at PAU is a multi disciplinary research award degree for people who already hold a bachelor's degree (in any field) who would like to expand and upgrade their knowledge.
The MPhil is a multi- disciplinary research degree, allowing students to pursue in-depth study on a selected topic. Through a mentoring relationship, research students develop skills in high level analysis and presentation, integrating academic and professional concerns.
At the end of the MPhil programme the graduate will:
Achieve mastery or overview of the relevant field of study and in-depth understanding in a specific area of knowledge;
Demonstrate a high order of skill in analysis and critical evaluation through the planning and execution of a piece of scholarship or research;
Demonstrate creativity and flexibility in the application of knowledge and skills to new situations, to solve complex problems and to think rigorously and independently; and
Have an appreciation for, and personal commitment to, continued life-long learning.

Who should do this course?

This course is designed for students who would like to develop high level skills in critical thinking and writing; make a contribution at the level of scholarship and policy and programme development.

Professional Recognition

Master of Philosophy is a research based award.  As it is a research based award, there are no specific professional qualifications that this course provides however the award is highly recognised as an award and recognition of advanced learning by employers and universities alike.

Career opportunities

Students who successfully complete this award are typically employed in a variety of fields.  Common examples are in some of the following areas:
Research;
Policy development;
Consultancy;
Academic career/higher education teaching;
others, depending on the area of research

Entry requirement

You must hold a relevant Bachelor degree with a minimum GPA of 2.7 (or equivalent)
OR
You must have completed two postgraduate level subjects with a minimum GPA of 2.7 (or equivalent).
